Using Hand Sanitizer Instead of Soap

by Jennifer Stinnett on May 17, 2010

I believe that if something happens to you 3 times you should take note as to why and listen to what it has to say. This is why today’s post is for bachelor’s. And one more thing for me to weirdly obsess about.

Here it is …

Bachelor’s …. hand sanitizer is NOT hand soap.

I have been to the homes of 3 bachelor’s (get your mind out of the gutter) for parties and group dinners …. and have seen in their bathrooms … where the soap dispenser should be …. hand sanitizer instead.

I can only imagine these men going to the store, seeing the bottles and the words “Hand” on them, thus satisfying the need for “hand” soap (not reading the next word) and tossing it into their basket.

Hand Sanitizer is NOT Hand Soap, which is what most of us expect when we go to wash our hands in the sink. We expect that there will be hand soap for us to use to wash our hands.

This is what I originally thought. But then I did some digging … and I of course went to Wikipedia – where I looked up Hand Sanitizer. It indicated that hand sanitizer can be used as an alternative to hand soap. Fabulous. I might be wrong.

Then I went to Wikipedia to look up Hand Washing … which indicated the use of washing … wait for it … WITHOUT THE USE OF WATER.

So NOW after I did my whole … “bachelor judging” I realize I may be in the wrong. Using hand sanitizer instead of hand soap actually could be called being a little “green” by not using water. Although from my past posts we’ve also learned that when we think we’re being green … we may not really be green.

I know .. I’m confusing myself a little. How about just watching this test / show that Good Morning America did and see for yourself.

What do you do? Do you have hand sanitizer instead of hand soap? Will you replace your hand soap with hand sanitizer?

Cheers to bachelor’s who have hand sanitizer!

Actually, the preferred ‘green’ method of hand washing does not involve hand sanitizer. Soap and water is all that is required. The chemicals in sanitizer are harsh and kill off good bacteria our bodies use to naturally fight off germs.

Oh yes, organics are growing on me. But the better news is that I’m still showering everyday.

Since working in a Hospital ……. Handwashing is still the way to go… I would not like it if my Dr. used handsanitizer instead of washing thier hands before my surgery…

Wendy …. I’m glad you shower. It’d be a lot of hand sanitizer to use if you didn’t use water…

Theresa – AGREE …. soap and water!
