I’ll try to catch everyone up to speed…. I work in Relocation — there was a conference in California … my department of 1 (me) won an award … I flew to the conference because my boss “sponsored me” to …. I also got a little more edumacated. (Yes – spelled wrong … save it!)
So while I’ve been to many conferences, it always sucks to go to one when you know not a single person. That’s why I was SO (not) looking forward to this conference. I’m used to hanging with my other industry crew people in another network…. the fun crew …. the “we’re going out to alcohol network” group. That’s not this group. I think I knew all of 3 people there… but that’s okay, I got to meet some great new people. I sat myself in tables and groups where I knew no one and got to people watch which I haven’t done in some time. I loved it!
Somewhere along the line I decided to take my flip camera up on the stage with me. I figured that although everyone at my company couldn’t be there – why should they miss out on what it’s like to go up on stage to win an award. After all, it wasn’t just me who did the work, my co-worker team and our community won the award – couldn’t have gotten it without all their support.
So, holding my flip camera I walked and recorded my way up the stage, accepted the 5 Star award and enjoyed the rest of the night. The weird part… one of the presenters thought I was limping and kept asking me if he could help me off the stage. I’m sure that was to help me because of the limp, not because he was all like … “what the heck are you doing here” type of “help”. Either way — Great. now I’ll be known as the limping acceptee…. it could be worse I guess. So, enjoy the raw video …. Later – I hope we’ll have it cleaned up. Wait toward the end … you’ll hear him ask me about my limp.
If you ever wondered what it is like to walk up to the stage and be presented with an award …. here you go! (also … note the “cut off” chick in front of me to get on stage … WHAT the….???)
Cheers to California!
Jennifer
