Wine Wednesday!! – Cupcake Me!

by Jennifer Stinnett on February 17, 2010

Oh, I have to keep going with the fun wine labels. Guess what?!?! I found another one!

Cupcake Vineyards
Cabernet Sauvignon
2007 Central Coast

When I first read this label, I couldn’t help but think the winery was made of gingerbread, candy and that Hansel and Gretel were out harvesting grapes. They’re not. Also, that’s not what this winery looks like. Nope, not a freaky Disney destination at all. Just a small vineyard that apparently is making a big hit! They’ve won some pretty nice awards! (See all of the awards won for 2009)

There isn’t a lot of information on this wine. Not a lot at all. I was all excited about the tab that said “Blog” on their site … one entry. ok. I get it. They are more involved with their wines then posting pictures, videos, tasting notes all that stuff. Basically, they are saying, buy our wine. Which is what I did!

But THEN I noticed a stamp on the back of the wine label …. it was a blue dog on a white label. Interesting … I went over to THAT website. (underdog wine merchants) Here is what I found there!

So — my review of the wine. Let this one breath before drinking. It’s got a bit of a bite, but you can taste the black berry’s and I felt it had a peppery taste to it. Keep in mind I’m still a tad sick, so – my tasting may be a bit off. This bottle ran about $10, so for the price – I’d love to have this with some pasta!

I also have to say I like the fact that this isn’t a mass produced wine and it’s at a price that’s affordable.

Bringing this wine to the party is sure to start some conversation — it’s a harder to find wine then most and you’ll look like you know something! Just don’t tell them you read about here on Jennifer’s Review — that’ll blow your “wine knowledge” story.

Cheers to underdog great wines!

There are sure some unique and funny wine labels. Whats important is the tastes inside the bottle. Too bad there are deceiving labels that doesn’t suit your taste. Still goof that people produce different unique wines.
