OLX.com – It’s like “Craigslist – Next Generation!”

by Jennifer on February 16, 2010

No, I’m not talking about the next SNL/Sci-Fi movie that’s coming out this summer; I’m talking about a site that is changing the online free ad landscape. While that sentence may seem like a hokey pay to post sentence – please bear with me. (and no – I’m not being paid for this) OLX.com is a site that is taking on Craigslist and going a few steps further. Well… maybe even a few strides further.

OLX.com is a free online classified site much like Craigslist. What makes this site “next generation” is that it integrates Social Networking capabilities. On OLX.com when you have something to sell — like that car, collectable, home, etc. You can share that listing on your social networking sites. Sound like it’s “not that big of a deal” idea? Well, it is – especially when it comes to real estate.

Right now, the only way to promote your craigslist real estate post is by copying and taking your listing link over to sites to post your listing manually. Not here. OLX.com allows for all types of social site sharing – making it easier to gain more exposure for your listing. Not only that .. it allows the ability to upload video! (I’ll wait for you to catch up…) yes, video!! Fabulous!

It’s not just for you to share YOUR listing – it’s there for others to share something they like! Everyone who has bought a home or thinking of viewing a home has been excited to share that home’s stats with family or friends. Even when I purchased my home… I was so excited, I was faxing and emailing (facebook wasn’t around then) my family/friends the home I was thinking of placing an offer on hoping for their opinions. OLX.com gets this sharing concept …. They allow the ability to share your listings. Kudos!

OLX.com was started by the same guy that brought us Zingy, Inc. – OLX.com is his next project and what a great concept. You can read my interview with him over on my site Jennifer Stinnett on Wednesday. Are you an entrepreneur? – it’s a good interview, I suggest the read!

OLX.com has also graciously offered my readers some free featured listings… since most of my readers read my blog at home … this is your advance notice! Stop over Thursday morning for contest rules to win free featured ads! (only 5 US Resident’s will win!) In the meantime – check out OLX.com… look at the category you want to use your free featured ad on …. and come back Thursday morning to win!

Cheers to sharing ads!

Yea OLX, is alright, but its definitely not the future generation. I have to advocate another site, Locanto.com. But first, lets address this craigslist issue because I think you raise awesome points, and I would like to reiterate if I may.

OK, so today everyone thinks Craigslist when they think about classifieds, or when they think about posting a free advertisement, or when they think about finding a new relationship online or finding a used car in their local area. That’s great, I am glad you could find your stuff, but now let me keep it real for you. Craigslist is fine, but seriously, they could be so much better. They say they are all about helping people trade easily and for free, but they charge you to post job classified ads, and have not taken advantage of the rapidly growing social media world to help people advertise their ads better. Alternatives? locanto.com. Seriously its awesome. The layout is cleaner, social media is implemented to help you get your ad out to a larger audience, and the site is offered in over 1000 cities in over 38 countries, and 5 languages. The site is new, so there aren’t as many ads on the site as Craigslist, YET, but hey, that will change; lets be real.

Craigslist has good intentions, but that being said, Ebay owns a good portion of the company now. Sellout?… And while on the subject of intentions, they say they are against scam at Craigslist, but they have failed to back up this claim with quality scam prevention and awareness promotion.

What are Locanto’s intentions? Locanto.com actually believes that providing local communities all over the world with a free trading platform is a good investment in the growth of communities, and in turn an investment in the growth of economies. “Good” business is good business, if you get what I mean. Online bartering has increased due to the global economic crisis: small businesses have found growth and success in online free ads, and some people are bartering just to put food on the table. Locanto realizes this, and it is catering its growing services to the growing needs of communities. Furthermore, Locanto addresses scam head-on with its professional customer support team and its regularly updated safer trading blog.

Trade Locally, trade Locanto, and never Lose. And even stay up-to-date on the world of classifieds through their regular blog. The future;)

Thanks Ron and Jesse! I think that olx.com has a wider spread … but obviously there is a need for the next step in social free ads! Will be interesting to see what comes up!
Ron – how would you get real time messges? Chat? IM? text? very interesting idea!

A good and useful post! It provides valuable information on this topic. Nowadays people are busy and attention span on the Internet is short. Therefore it is good that there is available free software, which makes it easy to perform for example searches on Craigslist.

Well, to be frank, this kind of sites like:

OLX, Yakaz, Vivastreet, adoos, and so on.. are just stealers…

Why? they steal our money, they steal our time, they steal Internet meaning.

Our money, to all the AdSense advertisers like me, because they use keywords that are meaningless to real searches, so if you search “cancer doctor” pops! a page of this stealer’s of clicks, instead a real info or result.

Our time, because we need to explore more and more pages now to find what we really want, more than before, thanks to this sites.

Why Google still leave them “hack” their AdSense essence? Well Google leaks of a real ethical practice, and when it comes to money… they don´t waste their time, and put in their results pages that if the text ad haven’t get the click of the user, so the graphical banner will do, so at final, all our money goes to Google, and so on to this stealer’s.

I talk as a heavy AdSense user, and trust me, this, this is not ethical, like many things in the world, but I never expect this from Google, i´m very disappointed of them, because the real problem is not this spammers with “classifieds” pages, the real problem is Google for leaving them in their results.

or not?
