… I thought I totally opened an expensive vintage of today’s Wine Wedensday. I was really worried I did a no-no and was about to call my back-up wine pimp Bill Eyer of Cuvee’ Corner … but then I Google’d instead. We’re safe ….

Today’s Wine Wednesday is:
Tolosa Winery’s
2004 Syrah
So … after I realized this wine is a bit out of my usual budget purchase price of under $20, I was even more worried when I realized that the winery is currently selling their 2006 and I have a 2004. I thought …MAYBE the wine was more expensive then what’s currently out there for purchase. Apparently the economy has hit this wine like it hit the housing market. Tolosa’s 2006 vintage is selling on their site for $24 a bottle and it looks like you can pick up the 2004 for around $22 or so. I don’t remember how much I paid for this gem. And I do mean gem.
Not being a huge Syrah fan, I am completely in love with this! You have to pick this one up ….. I know it’s not a catchy name, but sometimes you just need a great bottle to bring to that special event. This would be it.
This has a very black peppery tobacco taste to it and smooth – very unique and very different, I love it! I do think the winemaker notes on this say it all: “It is sassy and full of itself in the most charming way.” perfect description.
Every time we pick up a wine from the store and enjoy it at home with our friends and family …. we really never realize how much work goes into our bought bottles. Tolosa winery has this video set up of their 2009 harvesting ….. at night ….. check it out:
I never knew while I slept wine was being made ….. sweet dreams!!
Cheers to Tolosa!

Hey Jenn, this your back-up wine pimp, thanks for the shout out I think? Since this wine did not come from a box did you really enjoy it? Seriously, this sounds like a great wine from the Edna Valley area. I really like your new site, very nice and well put together, good job! Keep up the good work and keep on wine’g in the real world! Cheers!
