Wine Wednesday – Mirassou The Sun Wine!

by Jennifer Stinnett on December 9, 2009

I have a wine confession to make …. I’ve always seen that wine bottle with the sun on it at the stores and wine stores, gave it a glance but selected another bottle. The funny thing is, I’ve always seen it, EVERY time and just never made that reach for it.

Well, the universe must have known Mirassou Winery would be in my life somehow because Mirassou winery contacted me and asked me to try their wine and relay my thoughts. And try it I did and now I’m wondering why I never picked this wine up previously!

Wednesday Wine is:
Mirassou
Pinot Noir
California 2008

This wine was very smooth and carried flavors of cherry and plum – it wasn’t heavy and I throughly enjoyed it! I did not pair this wine with any food because on it’s own, it was that good. If you are foodie …. I have some great news for you! Check out the Mirassou Winery site and download their Taste and Toast online cookbook. It features celebrity Chef Jon Aston as well as other prominent Chefs from differnt areas around the US. The receipe that made my mouth water was Chef Issac Becker from Minneapolis and his Seared Ahi Tuna with Roasted Garlic and Parmesan Broth. Yuuummmmmm…..

I love showcasing winery’s that also are intigrating into supporting other businesses or charties and Mirassou Winery is no exception. Their commitment is to helping Women in Business and it’s impressive. That commitment and inspiration toward women in business stems from their early beginnings when Henrietta Mirassou was the link to holding the winery together after her husband Pierre Mirassou passed away at age 33. You can read the full story (and I encourge it) on Mirassou’s website but Henrietta was a tough lady and made sure her family’s winemaking traditions were preserved. And Preserve it she did. Today David Mirassou, the 6th generation of Mirassous’, has been touring and showcasing his family’s wines which has been produced for more then 150 years.

As a result of Henrietta’s determination and business savvy – Mirassou wines showcases business tips, in the past they’ve done contests – it’s great! Take a look at their site here for business management tips and more.

Who knew that sun bottle of wine I always passed up carried such history. AND that history can come home with you for around $12.

Cheers to family!
Jennifer
