Wine Wednesday – and it’s pretty bad A$$!

by Jennifer on November 4, 2009

I know, you are probably thinking that my 2 buck chuck, Charles Shaw wine review was about the cheapest one out there, right? Well… hang on to your wine corks .. because the budget wine reviews get better! It may not be 2 buck chuck …. but it’s “3 buck ass”. I’m coining that phrase… right here… right now … me.

brokeasswineSeriously – I found a wine for $3.99 and it’s appropriately called Broke Ass Wine. In today’s current economy, could we not have a better name?

“No frills great value wine” is what this company labels their 2008 red wine from Argentina. I think what I like even better is that on the back label the slogan is “Bandage your Budget”. This wine is a blend of Malbec and Syrah wine, has a smooth beginning and kick end. It’s a nice warm velvet wine and I was actually expecting it to have a bitter, heavy alcohol taste.. but it didn’t. Clearly the Prestige Wine Group has understood our current economic situation and produced a product to fullfill our void. Broke Ass Wine. Has it really come to this?

Going off track a little but still kindof in the same direction …… today, I read my daily Seth Godin post. I love reading Seth Godin’s blog. I can only one day hope his smart business savvy will rub off on me in some way. It may take awhile. Today’s post (which may actually have been yesterday’s because I’m always a day late reading them – which I’m sure is a big Seth Godin, be-on-time-no-no. so, I’m already behind the 8 ball. And also … how much thought process is acceptable to put in-between parathesis?) he blogged that data indicated the general public does not know the difference between a $20 and a $100 bottle of wine. My coffee went up my nose from my unexpected reading of that … he’s so right…. about me….it’s like he’s …..watching me or reading my posts! … wait … is he??

Anyway, he didn’t back that up with any links to a survey or numbers or anything, but it’s Seth Godin – you don’t question it. And yes, Seth’s right … I DON’T know the difference … but I do appreciate the history and artistry of fine wines. I also appreciate the business, the families, and rich history in some of our finer wines. I may not be able to participate in those higher end wines much, but when I do, I appreciate all that it represents. … plus… I bet they have real corks.

Broke ass wine doesn’t have a real cork.

So, there you have it …. I managed to bring Seth Godin, the honor of wine making and a wine named “Broke Ass” all into a review. Call me the thought spinner…

Cheers to broke budgets!
