Germany Wall Anniversary Dominoes

Google trend Monday brought up a great searching trend, The Berlin Wall. I did not realize that it’s been 20 years since this event occured. While I was only 2 when this happened (ha, I wish), this was very significant to cold war history. Reuters reported that 136 people where killed at the wall between 1961 and 1989. Today, there are going to be a lot of celebrations over in Germany according to many news sources.

Many World leaders will be gathering in Germany’s Capital to remember this event in history. You can check out old pictures about the Berlin wall from Guardian News Blog here. Today’s ceremonies will begin with The StaatsKapelle Berlin Orchestra playing at an outdoor stage. After that Nicolas Sarkozy, the French president, Dmitry Medvedev, the Russian president, and the US secretary of state, Hillary Clinton, will making speeches.

To further celebrate the event, 1,000 foam painted dominos have been lined up on the location of the Berlin Wall and will be toppled down, dancers dressed as angels will decend from various buildings in the celebration. Congratulations to this momentus event!

Cheers to a happy post-war celebrations!

I still think it’s a fantastic story that it was an accident that a spokesman announced the border was opened… shows how the best things that can happen are never planned.
