Romantically involved with Decero Wine

by Jennifer on October 6, 2009

I don’t know if it’s the fact that after at least 4 months .. I’m finally feeling better…. (An entertaining post on my “fun” health ride to follow.) … But during my Dr.’s orders to not drink wine until the health issue was resolved (I had a couple lapses…. I don’t think my Dr. reads my blog…) I think that a very good thing happened; instead of running quickly to the next “recommendation” wine every week, I’ve had the chance to let my senses rest. As a result, I’m really appreciating my to-the-high end-for-me wine. Tonight, I have opened my 3rd bottle from (Joe) Blatz Liquor’s suggestion.

Decero
2007 Malbec
Remolinos Vineyard – Agrelo
Mendoza, Argentina

Check out the tasting notes HERE

The name Decero means “from scratch” and that’s exactly what this vineyard is made from ….. bare nothing… from scratch. The Remolinos Vineyard is known for it’s “tiny whirlwinds” or little tornados for us US people to relate visually. Working with the land as this winery does – those whirlwinds keep the grapes healthy and dry.

There is something romantic about creating a thriving vineyard from nothing on the land but dusty whirlwinds, bare soil and a passion for wine. There is also something romantic about being able to share a part of that acheivement and process in every bottle. Each bottle of Decero is hand made …. the grapes, the fermentation process …. nothing manufactured and everything real. Wine from the foot of the Andes’ mountains … very romantic to me.

This wine runs about $17 a bottle and carries a raspberry, dark fruit, coffee and spice flavor. I enjoyed this wine on it’s own, savorying every sip and picturing it’s origins from Argentina. … and yes, I embraced every sip as I wrote this post ……

Cheers to starting from scratch!
