EMI.Com – the next big thing in Music?

by Jennifer Stinnett on July 2, 2009

emi-logoI was asked to take a look at EMI.com and give my opinon. So I clicked over to the site to see what all the new “hype” was about. Take a look for yourself when you get the chance.

The look of the site is clean and easy to read … I love that… I really dislike sites that have a bunch of clutter ..links… advertising every extra space they can place it. The disappointing things about the site (we’ll start with the ehhh… ones)

The sidebar video replays the first song EVERY time you change pages … while I like the Pet Shop Boys…. I don’t want to hear the first 2 seconds of their song every page turn. The second thing I saw was the “staff picks” and a video called “how to use EMI.com” … I was looking forward to watching that video since this was truly my first time to the site. No such luck … wasn’t working.

The GREAT things about this site is that they have videos for artists, an easy search engine and a good playlist set-up. I also like the news on the albums and tours that shows up on the main page.

How do you purchase the tunes you like? That was my question …. it does look as if the only way to purchase those songs / artists that you like is by way of an Amazon.com purchase. I use iTunes … so once I liked an artist… (which by the way… thank you EMI – I purchased a Lily allen and a Bat for Lashes song … 2 artists I never would have heard of had I not been by the site.

This site is in Beta phase and as such, there are going to be some gliches…. but I do think this is a site to watch… so keep it on your favorites list!

Cheers to music!
