So everyone is on twitter … and I love it … it’s a great site despite the recent comment by Google CEO, Eric Schmidt that Twitter is a poor man’s email system. Frankly, I don’t see how twitter even compares to email …. but that is just a fraction of what I didn’t get from that comment! Regardless, twitter is something that has once again captured the heart’s of obsessive people … and I mean those who have to have as many followers as possible.
So — what do those that want a lot of followers do? They search for sites or people that can promise the most followers in the shortest amount of time. You know, kindof like those that want the most money without the work in the shortest amount of time? sound familiar?
Enter @garymccaffrey and his “has a crazy idea. 19,530 new twitter followers in 30 days”….. I have seen these tweets and Re-tweets so I had to experiment myself. Did I obtain the thousands of followers promised? Nope. I didn’t even obtain the follow of @garymccaffrey himself! Not to just single out this particular 18,000 twitter folllowed twitter … there are lots of deals out there.
When I put out the word that I wanted input on “friend follower” programs … I got a follow request from this twitter-er: @followgenerator when you click on the site that the gentlemen set up to talk about his targeted follow generator system … it’s set up very similiar in look to those wonderful “spamming” websites promising all sorts of “get rich quick schemes”. And yes … this one actually proclaims to have a program to get targeted leads and then help you manage them. For a price.
The whole idea of Social Media … is to be Social. I have a lot of followers … fell for the “gotta get more” mentality early on and have realized you need quality – not quanity. It’s hard keeping up with thousands of people …. but if you have thousands of active, fun, like-minded and people-with-something-to-say followers … twitter’s the best place to be connected with them!! I’ve been on twitter since the fall of 2007 …. learning the whole time…. great to be connected with you!
The best program for finding, interacting and managing your twitter followers is a program called TweetDeck! It does exactly what it should and allows you to see and know those you may want to follow rather then going through pictures and just randomly following.
By the way ….. since I did my friend follower duty and re-tweet … I have yet to receive one follower through that program ….
