The Amish and the Heat Surge

by Jennifer on February 7, 2009

I get a few fun things thrown my way from time to time … some new items to review, give thoughts on, different marketing ideas and of course the fun stuff like this infomercial I’m about to showcase.

I’m torn on this post… should I give my thoughts first or should I just let you watch the video and come up with your own conclusions? okay.. let’s compromise – You watch and I’ll post my thoughts below… enjoy! (of note – this gem was found by tommeepickles)

Was that a fake beard I saw? and different ethnic groups as well?? … and I thought the amish didn’t believe in electricity… have I been misinformed? I’ve also heard rumblings that the Amish do not allow themselves to be photographed – apprently that is not correct and this website, photographing the Amish does a great job explaining.

Beside all the above – I have to say folks… this is marketing that has sadly missed the mark. It did make me laugh … so did it really miss the mark … because here I am telling all of you about it and writing a post! See for yourself the website: HeatSurge.com

My personal favorite …. hook that heat surge up whenever the mood strikes! too funny…..

Cheers to the Amish!

Jen, apparently you didn’t research much prior to posting this slanted opinion. Nowhere can I find that Amish “don’t believe in electricity” (you actually mean don’t believe in using), even so, they use it to certain degrees and their use is not stereotypical with their culture. You said Amish do not allow themselves to be photographed… that’s also not entirely true… like most things, it depends on the situation. Read your reference links. I enjoy a good joke, laugh, or satire as much as the next gal, however, your attempt at humor here is at best… weak. Don’t sign up as a writer for SNL any time soon… but you do have potential… you just need to put in the R&D work if you want to increase your credibility. Additionally, you seem to imply Amish don’t have moods? “Marketing that has sadly missed the mark”… yes, it seems you are “misinformed”. I don’t get your comments about “fake beard” and “different ethnic groups as well”. I don’t know about the beard (apparently you mean to imply the mercial is fake) but what is your point about ethnic groups? Are you implying Amish religion does not allow different ethnic groups? Whut?!! By the way, Amish make the mantels and furniture, China makes the electric heater. The mercial doesn’t really seem funny either (other than the standard expectation of humor we get from mercials) and your blog post about it sadly missed your mark. Regards, Rick

Thanks for the comment rick and for actually reading my post! Perhaps the problem with my writing lies more in the fault of not expressing my true feelings. This commercial “put me off” … as not being authentic. Regarding the photography issue … that is an argument that I’ve heard, not believed, thus pointing to a blog about photographing the Amish. You are also correct in the “use of electricity vs. belief. Judging by your comment you are an accomplished writer and I appreciate your time.

However ….. I still hate this commercial and would rather pass it off as a joke!
