Twitter: to URL or not to URL – Part 2

by Jennifer Stinnett on January 12, 2009

I wanted to do a follow up post to the first Twitter: to URL or not to URL post. Lot’s of comments came in from both sides of the coin on this one. So I decided to see what the numbers / stats support on this issue – do people really click on the URL links in their DM’s?

Enter operation “Twit-Jen”…

Day 1-2: All my “Thank you for following me” DM’s included my URL. 16 views to my blog came from the twitter profile. 2 views came from the DM’s. 25 people were added to my twitter followers.

Day 3-4: No URL’s were included in my “Thank you for following me” DM. 13 views to my blog from twitter. obviously no views from DM’s and 21 people were added.

Day 5-6: Alternated URL / no URL messages. 23 people followed me … no views to my blog from DM and 7 views from twitter.

So folks there you have it… the “Twit-Jen” report. Take from it what you will.

I’d like to share a fun DM that I received from David Saunders @madmain which I think sums up the whole issue!

“thx for the follow & I’ll follow back, as long as u r not a robot, a “get rich quick guy” or a spammer. madmain.com” (I inserted the link to his site.)

Cheers to Twitter!
Jennifer
